| Ball into circle | |
| I have received clarification from NPUA on where the free hit should be taken by the defence when the ball is played into the circle illegally from an attacking free hit. It has been confirmed it should be from where the ball was originally hit by the attacker, rather than from the point where it enters the circle. The NPUA guidance to umpires is as follows: Remember that the offence only occurs when the ball enters the circle. It is not an offence to hit the ball towards the circle, only if the ball actually enters the circle (without being touched by another player etc.). This is to highlight that playing the ball towards the circle is OK, and only becomes an offence if the ball enters the circle. However, the offence is still deemed to have occurred where the player played it. Phil Griffiths Chief Coach | |
| HWHL Important Notices and date of AGM | |
| Hello all, Since we are nearing the end of the season there are a few matters of business that require input from the clubs. Please remember that all matches need to be played by Sunday 11th April. The AGM is scheduled for Thursday 20th May (18:30 for 19:00 prompt start) at the Tower Arts Centre next to Kings School in Winchester. There is ample parking and a bar. Please forward all proposals for motions to me by the 31st March. All clubs must attend the AGM. Holly does not wish to continue her role as HHWL Registration Administrator so we will be looking for someone to replace her. Holly is responsible for checking the match sheets each week (this requires an internet connection) and will be happy to discuss the role with anyone who is interested. She is also happy to offer advice during the coming season. All perpetual trophies need to be returned to me at Teresa Dennis, Roke Manor Research, Romsey, Hampshire SO51 0ZN by 31st March. Please let me know when you have arranged this so that I can stop pestering you. Several teams have expressed an interest in joining the league next year. Since it is currently full in its current form we may need to restructure the league to either have larger or a greater number of divisions. If your club would like to enter a team for next season (or would like to withdraw a team) please let me know by 31st March so that we can come up with a plan! Good luck with the rest of the season. | Recording games | |
| Its a long time since we umpired hockey in the county (due to xmas/new year break and inclement weather), however now things are back on tract, could I remind all L1 umpires in the county to record their games, preferably on a weekly basis. This will keep the records up to date and save me a lot of chasing come year end (30th June 2010). If you are experiencing problems on the web (I believe there have been a few recently) please speak to me so I can hopefully sort it out. Have an enjoyable remainder of the season and I look forward to seeing/umpiring/coaching with some of you soon. Regards Roy Holcombe (County L1 Sec) |
